Candy, referred to as sweets in the UK, play a part in every American holiday, from Christmas to Easter, and it is an integral part of Halloween. But American people do not limit their candy-eating to holidays. The citizens of the land of free use that freedom to purchase over 600 million pounds (272 million kilograms) of candy every year. Here we’ve got a list of America’s most popular candy.

M&M’s

This candy-coated chocolatey goodness comes in different forms. A fan-favourite is the chocolate-covered peanuts, but there’s also crispy M&Ms, toffee-filled, and of course the original sugar-coated chocolate candy.

Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups

“Two great tastes that taste great together.” No other way to describe the combination of the sweet and savoury goodness of chocolate and peanut butter. It is not a surprise that America is in love with its products.

Hershey Bar

The representation of American chocolate. The history of “The Great American Chocolate Bar” is as rich and interesting as its taste. In the early 1900s, Milton S. Hershey developed a method to preserve chocolate for longer periods, which allowed him to create the first mass-produced chocolate bar in the United States

Snickers

If you don’t feel like yourself, this is the snack for you. This is Mars’ favourite chocolate bar. Snickers bar contains peanuts covered in caramel, over a layer of nougat – an American candy ingredient akin to marshmallow – and it was, interestingly enough, named after a horse.

Jolly Ranchers

Jolly Rancher has everything from their original Hard Candy to gummies and lollipops. Their official flavours are apple, cherry, watermelon, blue raspberry, and grape. In terms of hard candy brands, this is America’s most popular candy.

Twix

The third Mars candy on the list is also the least American candy on this list. This is a layer of caramel covering a piece of shortbread, which is coated in chocolate. It was created in Mars’ Slough Factory, just outside of London.

Twizzlers

Although most Americans despise liquorice, they are in love with Twizzlers candy. Originally, they sold black liquorice, but eventually, they began to produce the red, strawberry candy that all Americans know and love.

Sour Patch Kids

Are you a vegan? Do you have a sweet and sour tooth? Well, many Americans do too, as this is one of their favourite candies. The soft child shaped gummy, covered with invert and sour sugar is among the favourite soft candies in the US.

Butterfinger

These are similar in taste to Reese’s buttercups. The American public is in love with this crunchy, yet crumbly peanut butter bar, covered in milk chocolate. In fact, over one and a half billion of these bars are produced every single year.

KitKat

You’ve probably realized that Americans love chocolate, and this chocolate-covered wafer biscuit is no exemption. The second British entry on this list is, at least according to ‘The Independent’, the best chocolate bar in the world.

Baby Ruth

This candy’s delicious flavour is similar to Mars’ Snickers. Peanuts, caramel, and a layer of nougat, covered in milk chocolate. First debuted in 1921, its history is infamously tied to the legendary baseball player Babe Ruth. Fortunately, the candy is famously delicious across the United States.
